Review :

Just Fun!

I've been looking forward to seeing this for some time now and was not disappointed. I know the play well and wondered how they would approach the story given that 18th century plots could be tricky yet simple at the same time. I was pleased to see that they managed to stick very closely to the original but still creating a cinematic delight. No easy task with the original text! But the film flew by and I never felt they had 'dumbed it down' for the movie folk, but made it accessible for all.

It's simply done, but they have mined all their skills to get everything they can out of the material. Very accomplished storytelling and outstanding performances from everyone of the actors.

If you want good clean fun, this is the film for you. It certainly was for my family!

Magical alternate reality

This is a visual feast and a wonderful film. I drifted into the cinema accidentally while on holiday in Buenos Aires and was enchanted to be taken on an exquisite sensual and almost spiritual journey where the acting is precise and almost theatre like, allowing you to taste each word like a rich delicate patisserie. The decor, colour, texture and mood is so captivating that you are plunged into Amapola's world and it is a little difficult to re-adjust to drab normality after wards. This is what I have always wanted in great cinema making: a subtle story, visual enchantment, layered and intricate detail and a glimpse of another reality.

A science fiction comic drama

SPACE STATION 76 takes the viewer on a unique journey into the future from the cultural viewpoint of the '70s but never loses track of our 2014 selves. The futuristic spaceship environment is sleek, beautiful and cold where one expects Captain Kirk pursued by Chewbacca to come round the corner. However, he doesn't. The super hero is replaced with a very human, gorgeous cast of characters who reveal themselves struggling with sexual frustrations, ambition, jealousy and loneliness as they try to find their place in the universe. CHEF is a real charmer

CHEF is a total delight! I was expecting a forced attempt by Hollywood veterans to make a "charming" and "heartfelt" indie. Instead, I discovered a truly genuine film that is both charming and heartfelt for real with no unnecessary plot points (OK, the end is a bit rushed and tagged on). This is the best film since SINGIN IN THE RAIN to depict the pleasure and fun of hard work, friendship, and camaraderie. CHEF has a great spirit that is never forced and every performance is truly perfect. Just spot on in every way. Favreau really shows what a great director of actors he is in the direction of Emjay Anthony. This is a real kid, not a movie kid.

CHEF will surprise you in the best way! Work hard, appreciate what you've got. A great message.

Another forced & inspired comedy, suggesting a political change in the country just before the elections.

The publicity posters of the movie said, "From the makers of BODYGUARD" and that was enough to shatter any expectations from this projected comedy loosely based on the recent real life incidents in Delhi. Still I was willing to see something interesting made as a comic satire on the burning issues of corruption and political scams. But beginning with 2 horrible songs in the first 15 minutes itself along with few cheap double meaning dialogues and loud acting, my only hope got vanished quickly and then I was only having some quick naps in between this terrible forced comedy, good for nothing.

Yet to give you a fair idea, O TERI is simply a deliberate & poorly written attempt which vaguely aims at being an enjoyable comedy as well as a thoughtful satire on the present system and its fresh scams. But the real truth is that a completely different, well read and visionary mind is required to make a satirical-comedy on the lines of cult classic JAANE BHI DO YAARON directed by Kundan Shah, which is simply missing in this confused, directionless and below average project from Umesh Bist.

Taking its major inspiration from Shah's all time gem, O TERI is also about two good friends looking for a scandalous story for their TV program. Plus there is 'a dead body comedy' and 'a falling bridge' too straight away reminding you of JBDY. To give it a more up-to-date feel, the writers use the above mentioned plots in context of the latest 'Games Scams' in Delhi involving many known leaders and further try to give a social message too in a completely uninteresting climax making no impact whatsoever on the viewer.

In short, despite having all the required ingredients of making a good entertaining comedy (also having a song on FB & Twitter), O TERI fails miserably due to a bad script, over the top acting and all avoidable social messages in which no viewer is interested at all. Its humour remains dull, the dialogues are overdramatic and most of the sequences are not able to generate any kind of excitement among the audience.

So guessing the same, I lost all my interest in the movie from the beginning itself and actually felt sorry for Pulkit Samrat, whose career was really progressing well till this silly mistake. Moreover just like DISHKIYOON, here too I didn't stop to see Salman Khan dancing in a special number played along the end credits.

GREAT movie

Very well written!!!! Tyler Perry has come a long way baby! I LOVED the diversity in this movie. Diverse characters, diverse lifestyles, diverse target audience.....SAME common problems. Sooooooooo MANY funny moments in this movie!!! Yet there were still serious real-life issues. Being a parent is hard, doing it alone is even harder. BRAVO Mr. Perry for taking the time to put this together. I could see myself in all five women. LOVE LOVE LOVE the movie! I can't wait to see these ladies in more movies of substance like this one. They were able to be serious, funny, professional and look great while doing it.

Garbage !! Sajid Khan's movies had and never will work even if he uses "H" in his future movies

As I begin writing my views on Sajid Khan's Humshakkals, the thought that do come to mind is that how silly and crap a movie can be made with massive budget , high cost production, popular star cast and widely distributed by Hollywood studio Fox Star ? There are movies like Shahid and Bheja Fry with high quality content and shoe string budget ( 80 lakhs and 50 lakhs respectively, yes you read it right ) and yet managed to impress the audience. Why do we have people like Sajid Khan making films and yet actors like Saif Ali Khan are working with him ?

Humshakkals is a comedy of errors centered around 3 people who look alike each other.

From the disaster movies like Housefull , Housefull 2 and Himmatwala, comes another "H" titled Humshakkals in which the definition of Story, Script and direction does not fit it. Sajid Khan dedicates the movie to likes of Jim Carrey in the beginning but at least you tend to laugh at Carry's crazy antics. In Humshakkals, you will wonder how amateurish can Sajid Khan get. Imagine a scene where there is a chain of slapping between Riteish, Saif , Ram Kapoor and Satish Shah with Shah quoting it as Slapstick Comedy. Editing is horrible. The torture goes on for almost 3 hours. Art direction is good. Cinematography is nice. Songs are pathetic. Among all the actors, Ram Kapoor gives an honest performance.

Overall, avoid Humshakkals at any cost. Sajid Khan's movies had and never will work even if you uses "H" in his future movies. Garbage 1/5
